Santa Domingo, Costa Rica

Replete with colonial charm, Santo Domingo is the third canton of Heredia and is home to both a fair contingency of foreigners and a large percentage of Costa Rica's affluent, upper-class working professionals. The neighborhoods in Santo Domingo are clean and orderly, and within walking distance to town center, with its commanding church. And, while some of the town-center homes may not necessarily be considered stunning from the outside, they can by absolute gems within: beautiful woodwork, antique tile flooring, and precious gardens are featured in many of the homes here. There are also many newer homes interspersed with a more modern design  but it all seems to work together at keeping the charm factor intact.

Costa Rica Real Estate: Santo Domino

The real estate in Santo Domingo varies: from larger parcels and homes at higher elevation in the hills just above Santo Domingo, to older colonial architecture within the town center. 

The real estate market in Santo Domingo tends to be hot for both working nationals and foreign residents, as the location is ideal for those who work in either San Jose or Heredia.  Retirees and visitors can easily get around the central valley from here either driving or via the bus.

As with any properties for sale in Costa Rica, Santo Domino real estate ranges from inexpensive to grand.  In the central part of town, prices vary from about $200,000 to over $600,000.  Often great deals can be negotiated depending on the owners' need to sell. Larger homes with expansive grounds are usually in the surrounding districts of the town's foothills; there are a few such properties available in the $1 million plus range.  

Rentals can be found both in town and just outside; these are typically discovered by word of mouth.  Both long and short term housing are available in guest houses or casitas on larger estates, or as an extension of an older home.
