Things to do in Tambor, Costa Rica.

Tambor's beach is known for being an excellent swimming location. Unlike other, more visited beaches along the southern coast of the peninsula, Tambor is protected from overpowering waves and dangerous rip tides. Its positioning within a bay ensures safe swimming conditions for everyone. These clear, calm waters also make it an ideal location for snorkeling and scuba diving. Kayaking through the area's incredible mangroves is very popular among visiting guests and residents. Those seeking an active retirement in Costa Rica–one that is heavily influenced by nature–will find it in Tambor.

Exploring nature in the areas surrounding Tambor is surely one of the greatest highlights of owning or renting property here.  Beaches, mangroves, and forest make up the Curu Wildlife Refuge, which is home to scarlet macaws, monkeys, and other wildlife. The unique Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve is located less than an hour away and gives visitors the opportunity to enjoy easy hiking along the beach, while taking in stunning views and admiring the local flora and fauna. Travelers frequent the Tambor area for bird watching on both land and via boat. Another natural treasure of the area is Tortuga Island, which has earned the reputation of being one of Costa Rica's most beautiful islands and offers an idyllic setting for a swimming, snorkeling, or beach lounging. Whale watching is yet another popular tourism activity in the waters off this coast of the Nicoya Peninsula.

Those interested in spending some time on the golf course will be happy to know that they can do so here. The upscale Tambor Beach Barcelo Hotel has a 9-hole golf course, in addition to tennis courts and upscale restaurants. An onsite spa makes it possible for Tambor residents to maintain their beauty routine, and offers everything from facials to massages to hair care and more.

Tambor has a very small village that offers residents the most basic necessities.  Everyone moves at a slow pace, appreciating their beachfront lifestyle and embodying the Costa Rican "Pura Vida" (Pure Life) motto. Remnants of its past as a fishing town can still be seen, and those who invest in Tambor real estate may find themselves wandering to the docks regularly to get their share of the freshly caught bounty. Others may join in on the action themselves and learn how the locals catch dinner.
