Climate and Location

Climate and Location: Malpais, Costa Rica.

This tranquil neighborhood is spread out over three miles on the town’s main road. The houses are spread apart, giving the illusion of country living yet the benefit of never being further than three blocks from the beach.  Each home has privacy but is close to the center of town and the beautiful coast, which is rocky in most parts. Tourists are attracted to the bizarre volcanic formations that have become part of the scenery, and the jungle grows right up to the shoreline, providing plenty of shady relaxation along the sand.

The closest international airport is Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport, in Liberia, 116 miles away and accessible by a mix of paved and dirt roads.  Many find it best to fly locally into one of the many smaller airports located in the Southern Nicoya Peninsula and drive the rest of the short way into Malpais. The weather is very agreeable, with near constant sun during the high season from December to April. The green or rainy season is mild compared to other places in Costa Rican’s southern or Caribbean Coast, and  the average low and high temperature in Malpais ranges from 68-86 degrees Fahrenheit.
