Climate and Location

Located only 45 minutes from Liberia’s Daniel Oduber International Airport, the city of Santa Cruz is considered to be easily accessible and close to all the necessary services.

The canton of Santa Cruz (of which the town of Santa Cruz is the capital) envelops 94 kilometers of coastline and over 50 registered beaches. Popular beaches closest to Santa Cruz are only about 45 minutes away, and include Tamarindo Beach, Mansita Beach, Langosta Beach, and Avellanas Beach. These beaches are great for surfing, sunbathing, or just spending quality time with the family.

Santa Cruz is located in the Guanacaste region, a popular travel destination for beachgoers and eco-tourism within the nearby national parks of Guanacaste, Santa Rosa, and Rincon de la Vieja. Guanacaste’s National Marine Park Las Baulas is a mating place for turtles and is located only 45 minutes from Santa Cruz.

November to the end of April is high season, where there is little to no rain, tourists abound, and the cool Pacific breezes are welcomed by locals. This high season ends with the beginning of the green season in May. The green season typically features bright sunny mornings with welcoming rainfalls in the afternoons. On occasion, magnificent lightning storms light up the night sky, awing Santa Cruz residents who have views of the hillsides and valleys.
