Alajuelita is a spectacular mountain town located in the San José province of Costa Rica. Located 25 minutes southwest of the capital city of San Jose, Alajuelita allows its residents to escape the congestion of San Jose and, within minutes, enjoy the fresh mountain breezes.
Alajuelita has its roots from the colonial period. Established in 1909, Alajuelita’s first inhabitants were coffee plantation owners and the farmers who worked them. Alajuelita has a dry season (December to April) and a rainy season (May to November). During the dry season, the temperatures can reach 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit) at midday. In the rainy season, most days have sunny mornings followed by a short duration of rainfall during the afternoons. While most days follow this routine, there are a few days when the rain may fall throughout the day, keeping the landscape green and lush. The sun rises at approximately 5:45 a.m. and sets at 5:45 p.m. consistently throughout the year.
