Nosara Local Guide

What life looks like in Nosara: a wellness-and-surf community set in protected jungle on the Nicoya Peninsula, with a global reputation, a tight-knit international scene, and some of the best yoga and surfing in the country.

Location & getting there

Nosara sits on the Pacific coast of the Nicoya Peninsula in southern Guanacaste. It has a small local airport (NOB) and is roughly a 2 to 2.5-hour drive from Liberia International Airport (LIR). The access roads are rural and steadily improving; four-wheel drive is recommended in the green season.

The beaches

Playa Guiones is the long, consistent surf beach at the heart of the community; Playa Pelada is the quieter, scenic cove next door; and Ostional, just north, hosts the famous olive-ridley turtle arribadas. Garza, to the south, keeps its fishing-village calm.

Wellness, dining & the Blue Zone

Nosara is a world-renowned yoga and wellness destination, anchored by long-established studios and a health-focused dining scene. It also lies within the Nicoya Blue Zone, one of the planet’s longevity hotspots — part of what draws residents seeking a healthier rhythm of life.

Things to do

Surf and take lessons at Guiones, practice yoga, ride or hike the forest trails, watch turtles at Ostional, and enjoy the town’s cafés, farmers’ market, and tight community events — all wrapped in protected nature.
