Playa Guiones & Pelada Local Guide | Surf, Beaches & Nosara Life, Costa Rica
Playa Guiones & Playa Pelada Local Guide
The two beaches at the heart of Nosara offer two moods: Guiones for world-class surf and an active wellness scene, Pelada for quiet tide pools and sunset drinks. Backed by protected forest and governed by strict low-density rules, the area keeps its jungle-meets-ocean character even as it draws a global community.
Playa Guiones & the Surf
A long, white-sand beach with consistent, forgiving breaks that work year-round — one of Costa Rica’s best beaches to learn or progress. Mornings bring surfers and yogis; the forest buffer behind the beach keeps it free of development.
Playa Pelada
Just north, Pelada is smaller and more local — rocky points, tide pools, a blowhole, and the legendary Olga’s beach bar for sunset. A favorite for families and quieter swims.
Wellness, Dining & the Blue Zone
Nosara is a recognized Blue Zone and a global wellness hub, with yoga studios, healthy cafes, and an outsized restaurant scene for its size. Daily life centers on the beach, the trails, and the town’s shops, markets, and clinics.
Schools
Families are served by Del Mar Academy, a bilingual IB World School in Nosara. See our schools guide.
Getting Here & Around
Nosara is roughly 2 to 2.5 hours from Liberia International Airport (LIR) by road, or a short hop to the Nosara airstrip. A 4x4 is recommended for the local roads, especially in the green season.
