Tambor Local Guide

What life looks like in Tambor: a calm, family-friendly bay, two resort communities with golf, and the easiest air access on the southern Nicoya Peninsula — all at a relaxed, attainable pace.

Location & getting there

Tambor sits on Bahía Ballena (Whale Bay), facing the Gulf of Nicoya. It has its own airport with short flights from San José, and is also reached via the Paquera ferry from Puntarenas — making it one of the simplest peninsula towns to reach.

The bay & beaches

The long, gently curving beach on a protected bay is calm and swimmable, ideal for families, boating, and paddleboarding, with quiet sand and warm water year-round.

Amenities & community

Tambor offers golf at Los Delfines and Tango Mar, a handful of restaurants and local services, and quick access to the larger towns of Cóbano, Montezuma, and Santa Teresa for additional dining, shopping, and schools.

Things to do

Play golf, sportfish the Gulf of Nicoya, visit the Curú Wildlife Refuge, take a boat to Tortuga Island for snorkeling, and explore the waterfalls of Montezuma and the surf of Santa Teresa nearby.
