Location and Climate: Huacas, Costa Rica.

Green turtle, playa grande, huacus, guanacaste, costa rica, LIR, CRHuacas is located less than an hour away from the Daniel Oduber International Airport in Liberia. One of the more unnoticed towns in Guanacaste, this town gets lots of through traffic by tourists visiting the local attractions. The crossroads in the center of town lead to many beautiful beaches: Tamarindo is only 15 minutes away, Playa Flamingo, Playa Potrero, and Playa Minas are 10 minutes away, and Playa Grande is a mere 5 minutes away. Playa Conchal, which gained its fame from the broken shells that have replaced the sand here, is located only 20 minutes from Huacas. Each beach has its own specialty such as local surfing, scuba diving, snorkeling, swimming, or sport fishing. Huacas is situated on a major paved highway, making it easily accessible from both the north and the south.

Other than beaches, the area surrounding Huacas has many other popular attractions for fun in the sun. Only 15 minutes away, the Tamarindo National Wildlife Refuge offers 1,000 acres of protected forest to be discovered.  Hiking, bird and animal watching, as well as water sports such as kayaking and sailing, are popular here. The Las Baulas National Marine Park is less than 20 minutes from Huacas and is popular from October to March when turtles make the beach’s sand their nesting ground.

Tourists begin arriving in November when the high season begins.  Sunshiny days with little to no rain until March allows travelers from all over the world to enjoy the beaches and attractions without cloudy skies dampening their vacation. Green season begins in May, as do the discounts on local attractions, when rainfall is common in the afternoons. During the green season, Huacas residents usually make the most of the sunny mornings, and simply allow time for a siesta during the afternoon showers.
