The Barva town center revolves around a lovely central park plaza more recently endowed with statues created and donated by artists from around the country.  Local businesses offer everything from souvenirs, video stores, sodas (which are casual Costa Rican restaurants that feature typical fare), a post office, and pretty much everything you need. Take a short 10-minute drive from Barva into Heredia and you'll discover a wide range of shopping and dining.

As is true of many of Costa Rican cities and towns, Barva's large church, adorned with 19^th century baroque architecture and situated across from the park, is the focal point of life for a large percentage of Barva’s inhabitants. Named after the patron Saint Bartholomew, the Barva church is rich with its own history.

The town and its church, as well as several old buildings in the town, proudly hold the distinction as one of Costa Rica's treasured national monuments - preserved for their important historical reference.
