Things to Do
There are several advantages to living in Heredia. For some, it is the central location, above and away from the fast paced capital city of San Jose. Others have been drawn to Heredia because of Heredia's close proximity to San Jose's International Airport, Juan Santa Maria (a 20-45 minute drive from most points within Heredia). Most retirees choose Heredia for its year-round, spring like climate and its lush green scenery. Others choose Heredia because it is only a 2-4 hour drive to enjoy the beautiful beaches along either of Costa Rica's coastlines.
Heredia has a large, international expat community and many retirees and second home buyers have settled in this area. There are countless real estate opportunities catering to both locals and internationals – offering everything from a hobby farm, to modern gated condo communities, to luxury homes.
Many well-established organizations and groups are available to welcome new residents and guests, depending on their interests. One of the oldest philanthropic friendship groups is the Women's Club of Costa Rica (wccr.org), an English-speaking group started in 1940 and representing over 20 different countries. There is also a male member contingency called the Amigos Asociados group.
