The town of Huacas is known more as a gateway city. Originally dedicated to agriculture, most of its residents now work in the retail or tourism industry. Although not necessarily considered a beach town, residents in Huacas do spend much time visiting the beach to sunbathe or simply spend time with their families. Families will love the convenience of having stores and attractions all at the tip of their fingertips. Working professionals will also have the advantage of being close to Tamarindo, Liberia and Liberia’s international airport.
The town festivities take place from the beginning to middle of January. During this time, parades, rodeos, horse shows, and bull runs are popular. In Costa Rica, the custom is to only tease the bull and never hurt it. Experienced bull riders also have a chance to prove themselves on the best and meanest bulls during the festivities.
Adventure tourism and eco tourism are two of the biggest draws to Huacas and its surrounding areas. Local tour companies can arrange tours in all of the surrounding areas including canopy, white water rafting, and a visit to the local Rincon de la Vieja Volcano only an hour and a half away. Golf is popular at Reserva Conchal Golf Club and The Westin Resort and Spa, only 10 minutes away from Huacas. Here, visitors will receive top notch treatment, as these properties are exclusive and luxurious.
