Flamingo Marina Scope:

The Flamingo Marina development includes approximately 175 wet slips, a dry boat storage facility, fueling station, heliport, and two mixed-use retail and residential sites totaling more than 15,000 m2.  An impressive man-made 6.2 acre peninsula is being created for a future hotel site and the pre-existing coast guard facility shall remain as part of the development.  The project broke ground in December of 2019.  Phase One is scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of 2023, while Phase Two is scheduled to be completed in 2025.  The project has already scaled to an estimated $50M project.  As of May 2020, the project is slightly ahead of schedule. 





Flamingo Marina Location:

The new Flamingo Marina is being built in the protected bay between the upscale beach towns of Playa Flamingo and Playa Potrero.  Contrary to its name, the Flamingo Marina is actually located on the South-West corner of Playa Potrero Beach (adjacent to Flamingo).  Playa Potrero is a 2.5 mile long beach that has titled beachfront parcels and serves as home to the Surfside Estates and Potrero communities.

In terms of it's location nationally, the Flamingo Marina is conveniently located between the already existing marinas of (1) Papagayo Marina (located to the north), which serves as home to the Four Seasons and Andaz Hotels and (2) the Los Suenos Marina (located to the south) in Herradura.  Thus, the Flamingo Marina will fit perfectly as a well-needed stop along the Pacific Coast line, providing safe harbor for larger yachts and pleasure vessels traveling along the coast of Costa Rica. 

Flamingo is already a well-known destination and a boating community has been present here for 30+ years.  Currently, Flamingo and Potrero have a combined 70+ boats on buoys within this bay.   With the new marina and the older buoy location, boaters will have plenty of options for location, convenience, and price. One thing is for certain, the Flamingo and Potrero area will become a world class destination for sport fishing, yachting, and vactioning. 

Playa Flamingo and Play Potrero are conveniently located less than a 1-hour drive (approximately 26 miles) from the Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport (LIB). 

Flamingo Marina Impact – Residential Home Values:

Since the marina's ground breaking back in December of 2019, we have seen values in both Flamingo and Potrero and the surrounding areas increase in value from the anticipation.  Historically, Marinas create a positive growth impact, resulting in an increase of commerce and home values.  Estimates predict a 20-30% increase in property values upon the completion of the Marina, and the towns of Flamingo and Potrero have the most to gain. 

Both Flamingo and Potrero offer luxury beachfront estates and beachfront condo options.  If you are a boat owner and are looking at investment opportunities in Costa Rica, then this area should be on your list to visit.  Playa Potrero and Flamingo already are very unique because of the fact that the beachfront land in these areas are titled.  Only 3% of all oceanfront land in Costa Rica is titled.  This allows foreigners an extremely rare opportunity to own beachfront.
