Climate and Location
Puntarenas sits on the northern edge of the Costa Rica's Central Pacific Coast, about an hour north of the popular beach town of Jaco. To the west of Puntarenas, the Gulf of Nicoya separates the so-called mainland Costa Rica from the large Nicoya Peninsula. This busy town is situated at the tip of a peninsula that protrudes into the Golf of Nicoya. The peninsula is conveniently located directly off the Interamericana Highway (or Pan-American Highway), which is a major international transport highway that runs through all of North, Central, and South America and has the unique designation of being the world’s longest “motorable road.”
Residents also enjoy easy access to Costa Rica's newest major expressway, Highway 27. The highway makes travel to San Jose faster and easier than ever, cutting down travel time to well under two hours. The nearest major airport is the Juan Santamaria International Airport, also located less than two hours away and directly accessible via highway from Puntarenas.
