Saint Patrick American School is a private schooling option popular with expatriates who reside in Puntarenas. It is a small school that offers a majority of instruction in English, with just a few classes being taught in Spanish. The school follows the Costa Rican school calendar from mid-February through mid-December, with the typical 3 week vacation in July. Classes are kept to 20 students or less to ensure a quality learning environment.
Parents will also want to consider public schools for their children if moving to Costa Rica. The national school system is a point of pride for Costa Rica, which boasts the highest literacy rate in all of Central America.
