Siquirres: The Lush Off-The-Beaten-Path Life

Siquirres is a special lowland small town that has an off-the-beaten-path vibe. In addition, it’s postcard picture perfect. It is not a major tourist attraction, but it is a transportation hub, meaning that the roads are kept in good condition and it’s easily accessible from San Jose by car or public transportation. Those who live in Siquirres enjoy the simplicity of being in a vibrant village away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Siquirres is unique in that it is located extremely close to many of the country’s micro-climates, including beaches, rainforests, and cloud forests. Siquirres is perfect for anyone wanting the true “Tico” Costa Rican lifestyle with a tropical touch.

Real Estate in Siquirres

Since it is a transit hub, some tourists prefer to spend the night before continuing on to their ultimate destination, and there are hostels and hotels to rent for between $10 for a shared room and $200 for a luxurious experience.

The name of the game in Siquirres is variety. Just as the prices for vacation rentals vary, so do the prices of real estate. One can find a simple home for $30,000 or an expansive property (24 hectares) with a large home for $275,000. A unique feature of homes in Siquirres is that they are almost always one-floor homes, even if they are quite large a great benefit for people with limited mobility. The land is inexpensive and the priority is to maintain the great jungle views by keeping homes low to the ground. Another interesting feature is that even the simplest of homes often come with satellite TV to enjoy the best programs from back home.

Everyone is welcomed in Siquirres. It’s a varied place, in both culture and real estate. Cultural tourists like to visit Siquirres to hear the folk stories that have made the area popular, and a multicultural welcoming feel surely comes from a community that speaks 7 languages (including Spanish, English, Limonese Creole, Chinese, and three Indigenous languages). Regardless of one’s country of origin or ethnic diversity, he or she will likely be welcomed with open arms into the superb town of Siquirres.
