Climate and Location

Climate and Location: Tilaran and Tronadora, Costa Rica.

Tilarán and Tronadora are located just 5.5 miles from one another, so they are often talked about together. They are about 3 miles southwest of the Arenal Lake, the country’s largest inland body of water, which is a huge attraction for windsurfers and fishermen. From the lakeside, residents catch glimpses of the spectacular Arenal Volcano, which is semi-active, giving off smoke from its peak and heating the nearby hot springs. These two towns are conveniently located only 50 miles from the Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport (LIR) in Liberia.

Tilarán and Tronadora are located at 500 meters above sea level, keeping the climate dry and comfortable. Because the weather can change with the Pacific coast weather pattern as well as the inland lake weather pattern, temperatures can range from 60-89 degrees from day to day, but are generally around 75 degrees Fahrenheit.  November through March feature beautiful sunny days with little or no rain. From December to mid-February, the wonderful breezes from the Pacific Coast and Lake Arenal delight residents and tourists alike.  May through October is the green season, typically featuring bright, sunny mornings followed by afternoon showers.
